ADVENT: KEEP BURNING THE INCENSE

What is the longest you’ve ever prayed for something before God answered your prayer?  When year after year goes by and it doesn’t seem like God is moving, at what point should we stop praying?  I’d say if our prayers are in agreement with the Word of God and we are pursuing the will of God, then we should never stop praying.  You may ask, “What if it takes years and it seems like time is running out on the possibility of an answer?”  So what?  Is anything too hard for God?  Is God limited by time or distance?

Courage and Cowardice

In the text we see a stark contrast between two men—one was courageous and the other a coward. One stood up for what was right, but the other capitulated to his guilt and fear of public opinion and did something terribly wrong. One thing we know for sure is that it takes courage to be Christian in a world that increasingly embraces all manner of evil. It is a world wrestling with its guilt by blaming others and pointing fingers rather than looking in the mirror and accepting personal responsibility for the choices they’ve made or the consequences of those choices.

It Isn’t Church Until Jesus Shows Up

We thank God when the preacher shows up, and I’m always glad when the musicians and singers show up. I’m overjoyed when I see you coming through the doors on Sunday, but it isn’t until Jesus shows up that the healer is in the house. It isn’t until Jesus shows up that worship is more than songs, sermons are more than noise, and prayers are more than words. Jesus makes the difference. In His name prayers are answered, lives are changed and hope is restored. It just isn’t church until Jesus shows up.
