David’s ascension to the throne ran through the deepest valley of his life. His home, his wives, his children, all gone. Even his men turned on him. He found himself utterly and completely alone, and his response to the crisis, in this his darkest hour, would determine whether he would be fit to be king. Here is the question this text puts before us today: What if our highest mountaintop experience, the pinnacle of our life, has to run through the deepest, darkest valley of our life? Do we walk that walk?
